We now have three viable candidates running for president and all three have big Gorillas that they are going have to deal with for the rest of the campaign. As we saw this week Barack has his life long minister to deal with, Reverend Wright and his fiery rhetoric that could just scare the “mom and pop” America to the polls. Barack’s speech put Reverend Wright’s words in perspective but beyond that you must compare them to other Reverends and Ministers that hold sway over the Republican Party. The Evangelicals can sound as divisive or incendiary as Rev. Wright. Remarks less we forget like the late Jerry Falwell’s suggestion, that a nuclear bomb be dropped near the State Department to get their attention, or that Teletubbies the children’s television show was encouraging homosexuality, and let’s not forget Rev. Pat Robertson’s claims that the Feminist movement was basically a movement to make woman leave their husbands, kill their children and become lesbians, not to mention that 9/11 was the fault of American’s sins. Most Republicans believe that without the followers of these two Christian leaders they cannot win the White House. Much to his credit John McCain has on several occasions cast aside the words and deeds of these self acclaimed speakers of God. But Mr. McCain has his own Gorilla, whether it be Joe Lieberman, who seems to be attached to his hip or his recent senior moments that could become more embarrassing as the race moves forward like his recent gaffes about Al Queda being trained in Iran and the even more embarrassing remark in Texas, when he said,’I am proud to be the Republican candidate for President of the United States of Arizona’ after much throat clearing and whispering from the background he finally coughed out the,’United States of America’. Why that scene hasn\’t been played on YouTube is baffling? Finally, and perhaps the most alarming Gorilla in the room belongs to Hillary Clinton, besides a bunch of supporters with egos that seem to have no end and beliefs in their entitlements that make them say all the wrong things at the wrong times. First Bill’s gaffe comparing Barack to Jesse Jackson, who also won a couple of primaries, then Geraldine Ferraro’s, that Barack was lucky to be an African-American, and then finally the bald mouth piece for the Clinton’s calling, Governor Richardson a Judas because of his support of Obama, on Easter no less. Still the biggest Gorilla for Hill is Bill, and one of the reason’s the Republican wants to wage war with Hillary and not Barack. The scenario goes something like this, Hillary wins the candidacy and a whole line of women in waiting come out to admit to going down and dirty with Bill since he left office. So from the get go Hillary is answering questions about infidelity instead of about the economy, the war and health care. None of it might be true but when does truth ever have anything to with politics, especially Politics-A-Go-Go...
